About Tamanu Oil
Tamanu oil comes from the nut kernels of the Tamanu Tree (Calophyllum inophyllum), an evergreen tree that is indigenous to tropical areas in south east Asia, and Melanesian and Polynesian countries.
The fruit is allowed to fall to the ground when ready, then the nut kernels are laid out on racks to dry for 1—2 months. During this time, a strong rich oil is released, then extracted by cold pressing and filtration. It takes about 4 trees to produce approximately 20 litres of pure Tamanu Oil. Because of the low yield, Tamanu oil is expensive to purchase, therefore it is not widely used.
Scientists readily admit that they do not fully understand the unique properties of Tamanu Oil, however, scientific studies have clearly established it as a significant healing agent, as it promotes the production of new skin tissue and also has anti-inflammatory, anti-neuralgic, antibiotic and antioxidant properties.
Some of the reported uses of this product are: Acne, acne scarring, stretch marks, eczema, age spots, burns, insect bites and stings, ulcers, boils, scrapes, cuts, skin blemishes, rashes, general scarring, shingles, sunburn, psoriasis, nappy rash, sciatica and rheumatism.
