Sprout carries the best brand of Dehydrator in the world. The US-made Excalibur is by far the best selling brand and has a long history of manufacturing quality machines. Of all the appliances Sprout sells, the Dehydrators across the board have the least warranty claims. In fact, I can only recall several since 2007. Dehydrators are on a resurgence here in Australia. Get on board.
Dehydrating is the process of slowly removing all of the water from fresh vegetables and fruit to make healthy, cheap, raw and long-lasting snacks and treats.
The dehydration process retains almost 100% of the nutritional content of the food, retains the alkalinity of fresh produce and actually inhibits the growth of microforms such as bacteria.
Dried vegetables and sprouts are naturally low in ‘bad’ fats, yet high in fibre and nutrients. Although a very small amount of Vitamin C is lost, dehydrating retains all Vitamin A (or Beta Carotene) in plant foods which is an essential anti-oxidant. Minerals such as selenium, potassium and magnesium are also preserved giving you minerals in a perfect balance.
A dehydrator is an excellent way to ensure that there is always nutrient-dense, raw food readily available so that you don't snack on junk! Great for everyone in the family.
When searching for a quality food dehydrator, it really is a case of 'getting what you pay for'. There is a glut of cheap, knock-off brands now in the market. They are poorly designed, not as efficient due to that poor design, they don't create a consistent result, are made from low grade materials and generally come out of China. If you have enough money for a cheaper unit (a Biochef or similar for example), then save up the additional amount and get yourself a high quality unit designed to last years and years. You will not regret it one bit. The Excalibur dehydrators are amazing machines, very well made and are highly regarded right around the world.
